Sorana Cîrstea (born 7 April 1990) is a Romanian tennis player. She is known, as a 19-year-old, a quarterfinalist at the 2009 French Open. She is also known for her 2013 Rogers Cup singles success, making the final, shocking players who were ranked higher than her entering the tournament and losing to Serena Williams in straight sets. Cirstea was no.21 by the WTA by the virtue of her appearance in the final.

Career

2014-2015: Injuries, out of top 200

Cîrstea fell down the WTA ranks in 2014 and 2015 due to injuries. Cirstea was at one point ranked in 2016, out of the top 200. She then started making a tennis comeback in 2016, reaching the Mutua Madrid Open quarterfinals as a wildcard entrant.

2017

She also made the 2017 Australian Open fourth round. Cirstea ended 2017 no.37, her highest since 2013. Due to the high number of withdrawals, Cirstea qualified for the 2017 Swiss Open - Women's Singles seedings, with the qualification WTA year-end rankings as of November 6, 2017.
