Slovenia is a country in southern-central Europe. Before 1991, Slovenia was part of Yugoslavia. With an area of 20,273 km, Slovenia is arguably one of the smallest countries in the world. With a population of over 2 million, Slovenia is one of the least populous countries in the world.

Slovenia's most popular sport is football. The Slovenia national football team qualified for the 2002 and 2010 World Cups, both times not advancing to the knockout stages.

The Slovenia women's national football team has had less success than the men's team, always struggling in FIFA Women's World Cup qualifying and UEFA Women's Euro qualifying. Tina Maze is one of the most successful Slovenian skiers in history.

The Slovenia men's national ice hockey team qualified for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. They beat 2010 semifinalist Slovakia in the group stage.
