Romania at the FIFA World Cup

Romania's most popular sport is football. The Romania national football team qualified for the FIFA World Cup seven times; from the first three in 1930 to 1938, 1970 and 1990 to 1998. Their best result was the quarterfinals in 1994, where in the round of 16 they upset soccer powerhouse and defending finalists Argentina. They have also qualified for the UEFA European Championship, with Euro 2016 qualifying considered to be one of the greatest successes of Romanian football.
