Poland's most popular sport is football. The Poland national football team qualified for the FIFA World Cup seven times, in 1938, four consecutive from 1974 to 1986 and 2002 to 2006. Their best result in international tournaments is third place at the 1982 FIFA World Cup. Poland qualified for the UEFA Euro three times, in 2008, 2012 as hosts with Ukraine and in 2016.

Agnieszka Radwanska was the highest ranked Polish player in history, reaching number two on the WTA rankings on July 9, 2012. She made the Wimbledon 2012 final, but lost to Serena Williams. Jerzy Janowicz made the Polish men's tennis history by making semifinals in 2013. Radwanska also made respect with sports in Poland by winning the title at the 2015 WTA Finals. In the 2016 season, Radwanska held a 10-match winning streak and also became one of the first Polish players to make a Grand Slam semifinal at the Australian Open.

Justyna Kowalczyk and Zbigniew Brodka won Olympic medals representing Poland at the Winter Olympics.
