Maria Komissarova (born September 5, 1990) is a Russian freestyle skier and model,
specializing in the women's ski cross event.

She was born in Saint Petersburg, Russia on the same day as Yuna Kim.

She was too young to qualify for the Torino Olympics, and did not qualify for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

Her broken spine during the ski cross practices are curiously one of the most surprising Olympic injuries.

Maria Komissarova injured

Maria Komissarova in hospital, in Munich, Germany

She would have competed at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia on home soil. During the practices of the women's ski cross event, she suffered a broken spine, carried off the course and was moved to a hospital in Munich, Germany. She currently is in a wheelchair and lives in Germany. She is unsure about PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics. Komissarova competed on the fourth season of Ben and Toad's Contest but left after two weeks. That spinal cord injury at the 2014 Olympic training could send her to the Paralympics instead.
