Music

After the Greece national football team shocked the football world by winning UEFA Euro 2004, Greece's successes in the Eurovision Song Contest have been better than before their first World Cup appearance in 1994. Greece won the contest once, in 2005, with Helena Paparizou representing Greece with her song "My Number One".

Greece shocked many by winning Euro 2004.

Greece's most popular sport is football. The Greece national football team surprised the world of soccer by winning Euro 2004; they were the best underdog of any major FIFA World Cup or a continental championship since Turkey at the 2002 FIFA World Cup. They have qualified for three World Cups, in 1994, 2010 and 2014.

In 2014 they advanced to the knockout stages for the first time thanks to winning 2-1 over the Ivory Coast to play Costa Rica; a team predicted by many to be eliminated in the group stage and to not be in the knockout stages. They lost on penalties, and broke a 2014 FIFA World Cup record for over ten bookings. After World Cup 2014, Greece will play against Romania, Finland, Northern Ireland, Hungary and Faroe Islands in Group F qualifying for Euro 2016; but the Faroe Islands upset the odds.

The Greece women's national football team only took part in the 2004 Olympics at home. They always struggle in the FIFA Women's World Cup qualifying and UEFA Women's Euro qualifying stages.
