This article is about the 2017 episode involving Ross Mathews. For the COVID-19 pandemic episode involving Ross Mathews, see JoJo Siwa vs. The D'Amelio Family and Ross Mathews vs. Loni Love.

A combined tournament of Faith Evans vs Ross Mathews and USA Gymnastics vs USA Swimming (September 24)/Kandi Burruss vs. Cynthia Bailey and Dancing with the Stars vs. Shark Tank (September 26) was the finale of the Celebrity Family Feud 2017 season. It was the first time since Kelly Clarkson vs. Amy Schumer and Bindi Irwin vs. Chrissy Metz (September 10) that the final happens on a Thursday. Due to DWTS playing Tuesday, a season 25 results show on week 2 eventually happened, with Debbie Gibson and Alan Bersten eliminated.

It was the last Celebrity Family Feud episode until the 2018 FIFA World Cup, as it was renewed for a fifth season, but the United States sadly failed to qualify for the World Cup after losing 1-0 to Trinidad and Tobago, and for the first time since the 1986 competition.

Pee Saderd was the defending champion but he won another title, defeating Heracross 6–0, 6–0 in the first double bagel final in Celebrity Family Feud since Garrett Morris vs. Alfonso Ribeiro and Todd Chrisley vs. Sara Evans. It was when Saderd defeated Chespin and since the 2017 Wimbledon Championships women's doubles final, when Martina Hingis and Chan Yung-jan defeated Chan Hao-ching and Monica Niculescu.

This marked the first tournament in Celebrity Family Feud history that not even a Verizon IndyCar Series driver failed to reach the quarterfinals; the closest was Takuma Sato, who would have reached had he beat Pee Saderd in his fourth round match. This was also the last Celebrity Family Feud tournament that neither an IndyCar driver nor Jirayu La-ongmanee qualified for the semifinals. Ironically, when Sato attempted to play his Andretti Autosport teammate in the fourth round, Saderd was the defending champion. For the first time since Neil deGrasse Tyson vs. Rick Fox and Boy Band vs. Girl Group (August 13), all eight quarterfinalists were European. Notably, the winner of the Mask Singer season 3, Boy Peacemaker, had it's first performance in the show in this episode's final between Pee Saderd who opened his mask last week and Heracross.

Seeds

Since the episode was one of the last two episodes combined after the 2017 Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma, it was changed from standings after Sonoma used for the 2017 Swiss Open to captains, which the same ones would have been seeded had it been by standings. Since the repeat of Kelly Clarkson vs. Amy Schumer and Bindi Irwin vs. Chrissy Metz is September 10 and another repeat is during the 2017 Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma, the final two tournaments (September 17 and 24/26) ended up being an internal selection. For Quizizz, it was also changed from a Metagross hogging game to a Pee Saderd hogging game.

The seeds were internationally selected by Abomasnow and Eldstar at Pocono. Despite his new song "ก่อนสิไป" and also Insect Mask being sung by the IndyCar Series, Pee Saderd was eventually the no.1 seed in both the Sonoma and September 24/26 tournaments, since his October 19 birthday were weeks away in both tournaments. Volcarona was seeded 5th, and wrecked the IndyCar party, and was the only Pokemon not named Aurorus, Dragonite or Nidoking to qualify for the top 8 seedings in 2017 episodes.

With Volcarona seeded 5th, Volcarona's seeding is the highest Serbian seeding at a Grand Slam level tournament since Novak Djokovic at the 2017 Wimbledon Championships, when he retired from his quarterfinal with Tomas Berdych. These seedings was also being used on the September 17 tournament, due to the Sonoma race clashing with the tournament.

Notably, Josef Newgarden is the highest-seeded IndyCar driver, ahead of his Team Penske teammates Will Power, Simon Pagenaud and Hélio Castroneves. Russian Pee Saderd grabbed top seed due to his great results with finals in every 2017 tournament expect Kelly Clarkson vs. Amy Schumer and Bindi Irwin vs. Chrissy Metz, where he fell to Carlos Muñoz and Neil deGrasse Tyson vs. Rick Fox and Boy Band vs. Girl Group (August 13), where he lost to Volcarona. Pee Saderd's records remain the best tournament record in the show's history; but it is unlikely that it would be broken again. Scott Dixon was seeded 3rd and Simon Pagenaud was seeded 4th, behind Saderd and Newgarden. Hélio Castroneves, Will Power and Graham Rahal grabbed seeds 6, 7, and 8, respectively.

All seeds earned byes to the second round, in both September 17 and 24 tournaments.

The Twitter mistaked the Gymnastics team as the winners in the second game on September 24. All remaining seeds that voted for the Gymnasts had advanced. With only Pee Saderd, Mario Lopez, Maneesh Gupta, Decidueye, Vaporeon, Skorupi, Marko Manieri and Heracross advancing, this marked the lowest amount of seeds that advanced to the third round since Kelly Clarkson vs. Amy Schumer and Bindi Irwin vs. Chrissy Metz (September 10), when only eight (Aurorus, Wario, Nidoking, Larvesta, Pee Saderd, Ed Jones, JR Hildebrand and Carlos Muñoz) advanced. This was because it was later revealed that in The Mask Singer season 3 that the Insect Mask was Abomasnow. It also included all qualified players in the pre-Jirayu La-ongmanee version of both the 2017 Postponed Cup and the 2017 BATC IndyCar Finals; and the seeds from both the MLB Legends vs. NBA Legends and NFL All-Stars vs. NFL Legends (September 17) as well as this tournament. It was the lowest until Sherri Shepherd vs. Ian Ziering and Tommy Chong vs. Derek Fisher and Gloria Govan, where nine of them advanced advanced, notably due to the 2018 FIFA World Cup being over and IndyCar's UFO mask the same tournament.

In both tournaments, the only seed that advanced to the third round in both was Pee Saderd, who turned 39 three Thursdays from the tournament's final. In fact Saderd was defending champion in both episodes. Out of the seeds that are seeded in both this episode and the 2017 Swiss Open, only Saderd and Lopez advanced, while the others voted for the USA Gymnastics team and were eliminated. Additionally, Saderd and Lopez were both born in October of the 1970's and before Tony Kanaan. Saderd was awarded the Celebrity Family Feud king for advancing in every episode expect Kelly Clarkson vs. Amy Schumer and Bindi Irwin vs. Chrissy Metz, when he suffered a shock exit in the hands of Carlos Muñoz, hence 13 years and 2 months younger than him.

However, Abomasnow apologized with the seeds voting for the Gymnasts as the Swimmers eventually won the Feud. The seeds' poor results was because of Abomasnow's The Mask Singer elimination. The seeds who voted for the Gymnasts did it on purpose to rumor that Abomasnow didn't sing in the Insect mask.

Until Black-ish vs. The Goldbergs, this was the last time Jirayu La-ongmanee failed to qualify for the Family Feud seedings, as he was not in IndyCar that time; until his Thai Mask Singer season 3 participation. Until Kelly Clarkson vs. Amy Schumer and Bindi Irwin vs. Chrissy Metz (March 30), this was the last time Hélio Castroneves was seeded in a Celebrity Family Feud tournament.
