Empower Learning Strategies

The Empower Learning Strategies is a Grade 9 course for students who have at least an IEP or a learning disability. Notable teachers who teach Empower in high school include Christine Chan and Paul Monaghan.

There are five strategies the students can learn in Empower. Their names are Sounding Out, Rhyming, Peeling Off, Vowel Alert and Spy. Starting in season 8 week 6, BATC decided to do Empower for contestants born after Belinda Bencic.

Strategies

Sounding Out Strategy

Students will try to know the word by knowing it first, then blending it, then say the word. Notable names that might need Sounding Out Strategy include most Russian/Ukrainian surnames.

Rhyming Strategy

Students will try to find a word in the Rhyming Keyword Bank that rhymes with the word that is in bold. Notable names that are acceptable with Rhyming include Garbine Muguruza's first name (use car and vine), Helio Castroneves' surname (use has, go, he and yes).

Peeling Off Strategy

Students will try to peel off the endings or a beginning of a world that is extremely hard for themselves to read. The first lesson is the beginning, and it gets more harder the more endings or beginning the students learn.

Empower was used in every IndyCar week starting in season 8.
Empower Learning Strategies was used in American Ninja Warrior in season 8 of BATC for those born after Yulia Putintseva.
- It will be used again on the main course on June 13 in Indianapolis.
Empower will be used in the 2018 Mississauga Thailand Grand Festival, since the Star CDs missed out in 2016 and 2017.
