Belgium is a small country in western Europe, bordering Francethe Netherlands and Luxembourg. It has an area of just over 30,000 km and a population of over 11 million people. It is known for hosting one of the earliest Summer Olympics, in 1920.

Belgium's most popular sport is football. The Belgium national football team qualified for 13 FIFA World Cups, including six consecutive from 1982 to 2002. The national team made it to the semifinals in the 1986 FIFA World Cup and finished 3rd in the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Belgium also made the quarterfinals in the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Additionally, the first time Belgium was ranked first by FIFA was in November 2015, coming from a struggle after the 2002 World Cup to getting a better team.

In the 2006 FIFA World Cup qualifying, Belgium finally failed to qualify for the World Cup for the first time since 1978.

The Belgium women's team struggles in the qualifying stages of the FIFA Women's World Cup and UEFA Women's Euro. Since Euro 2013, Belgium has been getting better; trying to do the same thing as the men's team starting with qualifying for the 2014 FIFA World Cup and is also starting a new Golden Generation.
