The Austria national football team represents Austria in men's association football.

With a FIFA high ranking of 14 in August 2015, Austria has qualified for the Euro 2016 finals in France after winning their Group G with two games left; this was Austria's first successful qualification campaign since the 1998 FIFA World Cup. Their chances for a 2018 FIFA World Cup berth are high after their Euro 2016 success.

Austria co-hosted the Euro 2008 competition with Switzerland; both teams played together at the 1954 World Cup. They won a thrilling 7-5 quarterfinal match against Switzerland at the 1954 FIFA World Cup in Switzerland. Their best finish in a World Cup is third in 1954. Austria hasn't qualified for the World Cup since 1998, hosted by France.

Euro 2016

Austria were dubbed as the weakest team in Pot 2. Austria were drawn with Portugal, Iceland and Hungary; the latter coming back to a major tournament for the first time since 1986.

In the first game, they were the favourites to win against Hungary but they lost 2-0 to the Hungarians because one of the Austrian players got red carded during the match. Austria drew their second game with the eventual Euro champions Portugal 0-0. In their last game against Iceland, they lost 2-1. Unfortunately, Austria finished last in their group and were eliminated in the group stage for the second successive Euro they participated in.
