The 2017 ABC Supply 500 is the 5th race at Pocono Raceway in the IndyCar Series since the comeback in 2013. It will be the 14th race of the 2017 IndyCar Series season.

Will Power is the defending champion from 2016. Mikhail Aleshin, who led the most laps and finished 2nd the previous year, lost his ride at SPM to Sebastian Saavedra for Pocono and Gateway, and another driver at Watkins Glen and Sonoma, so Aleshin will have to play the final episodes of Celebrity Family Feud unseeded.

Practice 1

Ryan Hunter-Reay topped the session after blistering Pee Saderd's lap in the last 20 minutes. The session was extended by seven minutes due to a spin from Jonathan Bald. Although Pee Saderd, who made semifinals in the repeat of Neil deGrasse Tyson vs. Rick Fox and Boy Band vs. Girl Group and final in Bachelors vs. Bachelorettes and Sandra Lee vs. Lea Thompson led most of the session, he was credited with 4th after Larvesta and Simon Pagenaud beat the Russian's lap time.

Qualifying

Apolo Anton Ohno won the pole, but Metagross will start inside the top 10, while Pee Saderd qualified 17th and Ryan Hunter-Reay will have to start 21st after crashing into the wall. It was later revealed that Hunter-Reay had broken his left leg and his hip. Hélio Castroneves will start 20th and Magearna will start last, using standings, the same qualification as Bachelors vs. Bachelorettes and Sandra Lee vs. Lea Thompson and the repeat of Funny Gals vs. Funny Guys and Louie Anderson vs. Christina Milian.

Final Practice

Will Power led the session, but Ryan Hunter-Reay sat out due to an injury from a crash in qualifying.

Race

Ryan Hunter-Reay was cleared to drive for Pocono and was also cleared to participate in the draw of Funny Gals vs. Funny Guys and Louie Anderson vs. Christina Milian (August 20).

Apolo Anton Ohno led the field to green, with Simon Pagenaud slumping and Hélio Castroneves making a huge jump in the first lap because of his lowly-starting position from a qualifying crash yesterday. Larvesta passed Apolo Anton Ohno on the first lap. Ryan Hunter-Reay moved up from his P21 position, while Sebastian Saavedra and Gabby Chaves, both Colombians, got passed by Pee Saderd who had last the Bachelors vs. Bachelorettes and Sandra Lee vs. Lea Thompson final and the semifinals in Neil deGrasse Tyson vs. Rick Fox and Boy Band vs. Girl Group (August 13). Apolo Anton Ohno got passed by Metagross, Will Power, Ueli Kestenholz, Simon Pagenaud, and Josef Newgarden. Ohno continued to slump, getting down to P11 by Graham Rahal and James Hinchcliffe, and now P12 by Beartic. Ohno fell to P13 with Hélio Castroneves passing him. Pee Saderd passed Magearna for P19. Metagross passed Larvesta for the lead, but Apolo Anton Ohno continued to slump, falling from P13 to P15, with Ryan Hunter-Reay and Mario Lopez passing him. Scott Dixon passed top seed Josef Newgarden for P6. Chespin passed Newgarden for P7. Josef Newgarden went down from P6 to P8 by Chip Ganassi Racing drivers.

Jonathan Bald passed Apolo Anton Ohno with Ohno continuing his slump. Scott Dixon passed Pagenaud, while Graham Rahal and James Hinchcliffe passed Josef Newgarden. Chespin passed Pagenaud for P6. The first yellow flag came out for debris from Beartic's spin in turn 3, while Beartic entered the pits. Pidgeot and Pee Saderd passed Ohno; but Ohno was Saderd's Andretti Autosport teammate. All drivers entered the pit lane with new tires during the caution flag. Chespin and Beartic found themselves in pit lane with issues on their cars, but Chespin exited while Beartic was stuck. Mario Lopez and Ueli Kestenholz entered pit lane for fuel. Ueli Kestenholz was the first one out of pit lane out of the Kestenholz, Lopez and Chespin trio. Mario Lopez managed to get out of pit lane, while Chespin got out last. Abomasnow talked to the Celebrity Family Feud reporters about the caution "Esteban Gutierrez, I thunk your day is done at Pocono. Also, I am the evolution of Snover, I am a Grass/Ice Pokemon, I can Mega Evolve. So I will be here for Eldstar in the final races of 2017 IndyCar Series and the final Celebrity Family Feud episodes".

Lap 27 saw the return of the green flag at Pocono. Larvesta managed to take the lead from Metagross, after Larvesta passed the Steel/Psychic type on the outside when the green came back. Scott Dixon passed his Ganassi teammate Larvesta for the lead on lap 30. James Hinchcliffe passed Larvesta for P2 while Metagross and Josef Newgarden passed Graham Rahal. Josef Newgarden passed Metagross for P5, while Rahal fell to P6. Pee Saderd, who beat Will Power in the Neil deGrasse Tyson vs. Rick Fox and Boy Band vs. Girl Group (August 13), passed the Aussie for P8. Ryan Hunter-Reay passed Hélio Castroneves for P10, as both of them started in the far back due to their crashes. Metagross passed Josef Newgarden for P4, but it was Graham Rahal who also passed Josef Newgarden. Jonathan Bald passed Pidgeot for P12, while Will Power passed Pee Saderd for P8. On lap 45, Beartic was officially out of the race after contact in the first yellow flag. Metagross passed Larvesta for P3. Jonathan Bald passed Hélio Castroneves for P11. Metagross passed James Hinchcliffe for P2, trying to chase Scott Dixon. Larvesta got passed by Josef Newgarden for P4. Josef Newgarden passed James Hinchcliffe for P3. On the next lap, Simon Pagenaud passed Graham Rahal, while James Hinchcliffe passed Josef Newgarden.

Scott Dixon pitted, forcing Metagross to take the lead. Dixon fell to P20 as a result. Simon Pagenaud and Josef Newgarden entered pit lane for fuel, as well as Mario Lopez and Allen Ford. Lap 55 started as the first set of pit stops. Metagross pitted, forcing the lead to go to Will Power. Will Power pitted, forcing the lead to go to Pidgeot and Abomasnow saying to Pidgeot that "it will pit within the next two to four laps", but eventually pitted on lap 57. Pidgeot pitted, and the lead was handed to Scott Dixon. Pidgeot fell to P12 as a result. However, Metagross passed Dixon on lap 60 and took the lead. Larvesta passed Josef Newgarden for P4, while Simon Pagenaud passed his Team Penske teammate Will Power for P6. Will Power passed his teammate Pagenaud on lap 62 for P6, and passed again one of his Penske teammates, this time in Josef Newgarden for P5. Power again passed Larvesta for P4. James Hinchcliffe passed Scott Dixon for P2 and aiming to pass Metagross for P1, but Dixon passed him. Larvesta and Simon Pagenaud passed Power, but Pee Saderd passed Josef Newgarden and Will Power, whom he beat both in Celebrity Family Feud matches. Will Power got passed by Graham Rahal, Ryan Hunter-Reay and Hélio Castroneves and fell to P12. Power got passed by Pidgeot and fell to P12 as a result. Scott Dixon took the lead from Metagross on lap 66. When Power slowed, Abomasnow said that "Will Power is slowing down and might have an issue on his car. He enters pit lane". Simon Pagenaud passed Larvesta for P4. Will Power got lapped by Scott Dixon, and his teammate Max Chilton was eventually lapped. Metagross was passed by James Hinchcliffe for P2. Hélio Castroneves passed his teammate Josef Newgarden for P9. Metagross passed James Hinchcliffe for P2.

Ryan Hunter-Reay managed to pass his teammate Pee Saderd for P6, in which was also from the episode Harvey Family Men vs. Harvey Family Women and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar vs. Ralph Sampson (July 30), where Saderd and Hunter-Reay played against each other, and Saderd won the match. Lap 82 started the second set of pit stops and new tires and fuel. Scott Dixon entered the pits, and Metagross took the lead. Dixon fell to P18 as a result. James Hinchcliffe finally took the lead for the first time, after passing Metagross for the lead when Dixon exited the pits. Simon Pagenaud entered pit lane and dropped to P17. Metagross again passed James Hinchcliffe for the lead. With Metagross pitting, James Hinchcliffe took the lead again. James Hinchcliffe pitted from the lead and Scott Dixon took the lead again despite pitting five laps earlier. Will Power and Chespin entered the lead lap again by the virtue of their pit stops. However, Chespin entered again because there were issues with their 8 car at the pit lane. Graham Rahal passed Pee Saderd to reverse his poor results against the Russian by passing him for P5. Ryan Hunter-Reay passed Simon Pagenaud for P3. James Hinchcliffe got a warning and post race fine for hitting their own equipment. Josef Newgarden and Larvesta passed Saderd, while Saderd dropped to P8. Josef Newgarden passed his teammate Simon Pagenaud for P5, and Pagenaud was passed by Larvesta. Hélio Castroneves passed Saderd for P8, to reverse Castroneves' poor results recently against the Russian. Will Power entered the pit lane again. Pee Saderd, who lost in the semifinals and final in his last two episodes, passed Hélio Castroneves for P8. Hélio Castroneves continued to go down, as he was passed by Saderd first and then to James Hinchcliffe.

Metagross passed Scott Dixon for the lead. Scott Dixon was then passed by Ryan Hunter-Reay, and fell to P3. Ryan Hunter-Reay passed his Andretti Autosport teammate Metagross for the lead. Hélio Castroneves passed James Hinchcliffe for P9. James Hinchcliffe slumped from P9 to P14, with Jonathan Bald, Mario Lopez, Pidgeot and Apolo Anton Ohno passing Hinchcliffe. Metagross passed their teammate Ryan Hunter-Reay for the lead. Hélio Castroneves then passed Pee Saderd for P8 on lap 110. Scott Dixon pitted on lap 111, thus falling to P17 and Chespin was then two laps down. Simon Pagenaud entered the pit lane on lap 113 and fell to P16 as a result. With Dixon pitting on Lap 111, it started the third set of pit stops. Josef Newgarden took the lead after passing Metagross. On lap 114, the second yellow came out for Sebastian Saavedra, who replaced Mikhail Aleshin, was slow on track. The yellow thus forced all of them to pit. With Josef Newgarden, Hélio Castroneves and Pee Saderd pitting, Ryan Hunter-Reay took the lead again. Chespin went to pit lane and was three laps down to the leader. Larvesta passed Scott Dixon, their teammate for P3 during a yellow flag, and Metagross passed Simon Pagenaud for P5, also during a yellow flag. Abomasnow marked Sebastian Saavedra and marked him that he was out of the race due to contact. Chespin and Will Power both had to enter the pit lane again. Abomasnow marked Chespin, whose secondary Ice type moves kill it, was moved to the back to the field for work in a closed pit.

Lap 122 saw the green flag again, with Graham Rahal and Larvesta passing Ryan Hunter-Reay, with Larvesta taking the lead, but Graham Rahal passed Larvesta for P1. Larvesta then passed Graham Rahal for P1.

But two laps later, the yellow came out again on lap 124 for an incident involving James Hinchcliffe and Pidgeot in turn 1. Abomasnow, replacing Eldstar, credited Pidgeot, whose Ice type kills it, a DNF and also James Hinchcliffe a DNF. During the Hinchcliffe-Pidgeot crash, all drivers remaining were forced to pit in the pit lane during that caution. Will Power had to enter the pits again. Chespin, despite three laps down, managed to be ahead of Hinchcliffe and Pidgeot, who both crashed on the third yellow. It was bad timing for the pits as both Will Power and Pee Saderd had to enter. Will Power had to pit on the pit lane again on lap 131 and then he exited on the same lap. Chespin went to pit lane again despite being laps down.

On lap 132, the green flag waved again with Larvesta still leading. Graham Rahal passed Larvesta for P1 on lap 134. It was later revealed that Chespin was out of the race with a mechanical issue on their car when they were in pit lane, but Larvesta took the lead and passed Rahal. A lap later, on lap 136, Graham Rahal passed Larvesta for the lead. Larvesta then passed Rahal for P1 and the lead on lap 137. Graham Rahal then passed Larvesta for P1 on lap 138. Larvesta passed Rahal again for P1 and the lead on lap 139. Graham Rahal then passed Larvesta for the lead on lap 140. However, switching leads happened again when Larvesta passed Rahal for P1 on lap 141. Graham Rahal swapped leads with Larvesta again on lap 142. Metagross struggled during that time from P5 to P8, mainly due to the tight lead switching of Larvesta and Graham Rahal. Larvesta passed Rahal again for P1 on lap 143. On lap 144, Graham Rahal again passed Larvesta for P1. Abomasnow said "It's like the last few laps of an IndyCar race". On lap 145, Larvesta passed Graham Rahal again for P1. It still continued when Graham Rahal passed Larvesta again on lap 147. On lap 148, Larvesta passed Graham Rahal for P1. The streak of Larvesta or Graham Rahal still continued when Scott Dixon had to pit and Larvesta still lead the race. When Dixon exited, Graham Rahal passed Larvesta for P1. The streak ended when Ryan Hunter-Reay took the lead and both Graham Rahal and Larvesta pitted. Lap 150 started the set of the fourth pit stop lanes for fuel and tires. After being as low as a lap down, Will Power went to P3 - his highest since the first 25 laps of the race. He went to P2 and then P1 after Ryan Hunter-Reay pitted for fuel. Metagross and Jonathan Bald entered pit lane, as both went over 35 laps of fuel. Josef Newgarden and Pee Saderd were P2 and P3 when Metagross and Bald pitted; both made the semifinals in Neil deGrasse Tyson vs. Rick Fox and Boy Band vs. Girl Group (August 13) and then lost to unseeded Pokemon, in Volcarona and Vaporeon. The top 3 on lap 157, Will Power, Josef Newgarden and Pee Saderd, all were top 8 seeds in Harvey Family Men vs. Harvey Family Women and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar vs. Ralph Sampson (July 30). Josef Newgarden pitted for fuel and tires, and thus Pee Saderd went to P2, his highest-ever in a non-Celebrity Family Feud since Toronto. Pee Saderd and Allen Ford entered, with Saderd as high as P2 by the time he entered. Will Power pitted from the lead.

Will Power still took the lead when he pitted. Josef Newgarden passed his teammate Hélio Castroneves for P5. On lap 166, Scott Dixon passed his teammate Larvesta for P2. Metagross passed Larvesta for P3. Pee Saderd, no.1 in the BATC Contestant Rankings, passed Apolo Anton Ohno, his Andretti Autosport teammate for P11. Metagross passed Scott Dixon for P2. On lap 172, Scott Dixon passed Metagross while Ryan Hunter-Reay and Simon Pagenaud passed Hélio Castroneves. Apolo Anton Ohno then got lapped by Will Power with Gabby Chaves also lapped. Metagross and Larvesta both passed Scott Dixon while Dixon fell to P4 and then pitted for new tires. With Dixon's pit, it started the final set of new tires and fuel. The race leader Will Power pitted from P1, with Metagross taking the lead. With Simon Pagenaud pitting the lap after his teammate Will Power, he exited before Allen Ford. Hélio Castroneves came to the pit lane the lap after his teammate Simon Pagenaud. Larvesta, Ryan Hunter-Reay, Graham Rahal and Mario Lopez all entered on lap 180. When Metagross pitted, the lead was handed to Josef Newgarden. When Josef Newgarden, Pee Saderd who also fell in the Neil deGrasse Tyson vs. Rick Fox and Boy Band vs. Girl Group (August 13) semifinal, took the lead. Jonathan Bald pitted and Pee Saderd still had the lead in which was Saderd's first time leading laps since Iowa. Larvesta passed fellow Pokemon Metagross for P3. Metagross passed Josef Newgarden for P3. On lap 187, Josef Newgarden passed Metagross and Larvesta while Hélio Castroneves got passed by Ryan Hunter-Reay. Pee Saderd had to enter pit lane, on lap 189, so the lead was handed to Will Power, who was eliminated by Saderd in the fourth round in Neil deGrasse Tyson vs. Rick Fox and Boy Band vs. Girl Group (August 13). Saderd fell to P11 as a result of that stop and his world ranking of 1 in the world. Simon Pagenaud passed Larvesta for P4.

Will Power wins the race despite at one point being a lap down.
